๐Ÿ” What is copy trading? And how it works on Polymarket

Copy trading explained โ€” automatically mirroring another trader's positions at your own size, and how it works on Polymarket's public on-chain wallets.

Copy trading means automatically mirroring another trader's positions with your own money, at your own size. You pick a trader, set your rules โ€” how much per trade, what to skip, when to stop โ€” and software places a matching order in your account whenever that trader places one in theirs. You keep your own balance, your own positions and your own off switch.

In 10 seconds

  • You choose who to mirror and how much of your money each copy may use โ€” the platform minimum is $1 per copied trade.
  • On Polymarket, every trader's history is public on-chain, so you can inspect a wallet's full record before copying it.
  • Copies below your per-trade minimum are skipped, not bumped up; stopping is one tap.
  • A trader's track record is historical data, not a forecast โ€” copy trading automates risk, it does not reduce it.

The general idea

Copy trading (also called social trading or mirror trading) exists across markets โ€” stocks, forex, crypto. The premise is simple: instead of deciding every trade yourself, you delegate the selection of trades to a trader whose record you have examined, while keeping control of the size and limits. The copier never controls your funds directly; the platform sizes and places mirrored orders under rules you set.

What it does not do: it does not make the copied trader's results your results. Your copies fill at slightly different prices, your sizing skips trades theirs didn't, and โ€” most importantly โ€” their past performance is historical data, not a forecast of their future trades.

Why Polymarket is unusually well suited to it

On most platforms you have to trust the trader's self-reported statistics. On Polymarket, trades settle on-chain: every wallet's full trading history is public, and you can check it yourself on a block explorer. Before copying anyone you can see exactly what they traded, when, and how it resolved โ€” no screenshots, no claimed returns.

That transparency is what Polyfox's Smart Wallets list is built on: a ranking of wallets by a Score (50โ€“100) computed from historical trades โ€” past profitability, win rate, consistency, and how a simulated copier would have done after slippage. The Score summarizes public history; it is not a recommendation, and high-Score wallets can and do lose money.

How copy trading works on Polyfox

When the wallet you copy trades, Polyfox places a mirrored order from your balance, sized by your rules:

  • Sizing โ€” a percentage of the target's trade or a fixed dollar amount per trade; platform minimum $1 per copied trade.
  • Skip, don't bump โ€” if a sized copy falls below your per-trade minimum, it is skipped, not raised. (One exception: below the $1 platform floor, the default setting buys at exactly $1 โ€” you can turn that off.)
  • Scope โ€” copy-sell mirrors the fraction the target sold, within the wallet the copy runs in. Run a copy from a sub-wallet to keep it fully isolated from your manual positions.
  • Filters โ€” price bands, size bands, take-profit/stop-loss, slippage limits, market vs limit orders.
  • Transparency โ€” every executed or skipped copy sends a notification; pause or delete at any time.

The full mechanics โ€” including Fast copy, sub-wallets and every filter โ€” are on the Copy trading page.

The honest caveats

  • Past performance is historical data, not a forecast. A wallet that did well for a year can start losing the day you copy it.
  • Copy trading automates entering risk at your chosen size โ€” it does not reduce risk. Positions can lose all of their value.
  • Small balances copy less faithfully. Percentage sizing on a small balance means many copies fall below the $1 minimum and get skipped โ€” which is why Polyfox suggests (not requires) $100+ for copy trading.
