๐ How to read a Polymarket trader's history
What PnL, win rate, volume and the 50โ100 Score actually tell you about a Polymarket wallet โ how to verify it on-chain, and the red flags to check first.
A trader's history is public, verifiable โ and easy to misread. On Polymarket every trade settles on-chain, so you can inspect any wallet's full record. This page explains what each statistic actually measures, how to check the numbers yourself, and which patterns deserve a second look before you copy anyone.
In 10 seconds
- Everything is verifiable: a wallet's full trade history is public on PolygonScan and its Polymarket profile.
- PnL, win rate, Score (50โ100) all describe past trades โ historical data, not a forecast.
- No single number is sufficient: read them together, over enough trades and enough time.
- Backtest a wallet with your own settings before copying โ it replays history, nothing more.
The numbers, one by one
PnL (profit and loss)
The realized dollar result of past trades. Useful, but always ask over what: a +$50,000 PnL means something different on $100,000 of volume than on $5,000,000. Look at PnL together with volume and time โ and remember it can be dominated by one lucky position.
Win rate
The share of past trades that resolved profitably. A high win rate alone proves little: a trader who buys heavy favorites at 95ยข wins often and earns little per win, while one loss can erase many wins. Conversely, a low win rate with a strong PnL can mean a few large correct calls โ a style that is streaky to copy. Win rate describes how often, never how much.
Volume, markets traded, trading days
Breadth signals. Many trades across many markets over many months make the other statistics more meaningful; a two-week record, however impressive, is a small sample. Prefer records long enough to include losing stretches โ every real record has them.
The Polyfox Score (50โ100)
The Smart Wallets Score compresses the above into one 50โ100 rating computed from historical trades: profitability, backtested copyability after slippage, win rate, consistency and recency. Wallets estimated below 50 are simply not listed. It is a shortlisting aid โ not a recommendation and not a prediction. High-Score wallets can and do lose money going forward.
Verify against primary sources
Never rely on any dashboard alone โ including Polyfox's. Each wallet links to:
- PolygonScan โ the raw on-chain record: every transaction, timestamped. The transactions themselves cannot be faked โ though a flattering record can still be curated (see the red flags below).
- Polymarket profile โ the wallet's positions and activity on Polymarket itself.
- Backtest โ Polyfox simulates copying this wallet with your sizing, slippage and limits over its past trades, so you see what your configuration would have done โ including the skipped trades. A backtest replays history; it is historical data, not a forecast.
Red flags worth a second look
- Short history. Weeks of data, however green, is a small sample.
- One-market wonders. Most of the PnL from a single market or theme โ the record may not generalize.
- Deep drawdowns. Check the losing stretches, not just the totals: could you have sat through them at your size?
- Huge single positions. Copyability suffers when results depend on a few outsized bets your sizing would skip or shrink.
- Long-shot streaks. A run of wins on 5ยข-priced outcomes is the profile most likely to be luck.
- Gone quiet or changed style. Recent activity matters; a wallet whose last profitable period used a different style is effectively a new trader.
- A record can be curated. Anyone can run several wallets and show only the winner, or trade between their own wallets to paint a history. On-chain data is authentic, not automatically representative.
None of these prove a wallet is bad โ they are questions to answer before copying, while looking is still free.
From reading to acting
When a record holds up under this scrutiny, the mechanics of copying it โ sizing, skip rules, limits โ are covered step by step in How to copy trade. And the framing to keep throughout: everything above describes the past. Historical data, not a forecast; not investment advice โ see Legal notes.

๐ Prediction markets vs betting โ the difference
Why prediction market shares are tradeable instruments, not bets โ order books instead of a bookmaker, exits before resolution, prices as probabilities.
